Regional Health Corporation, in its two perinatology centres, in Masaryk Hospital in Ústí nad Labem, and Most Hospital, provides complete care in case of serious problems during pregnancy, childbirth, and puerperium period, which may occur in mother, foetus and newborns.
Objectives of this project is to improve availability and quality of the medical care for preterm infants in the above-mentioned centres as well as to ensure a long-term monitoring and care in case of pathological conditions. It also comprises the prevention of negative impacts of perinatal problems and other diseases in children, and more effective secondary and tertiary prevention.
The project is particularly focused on the acquisition of specialised instruments, which enable clinical examination of a number of body organ systems in high-risk newborns. This will create optimum conditions for ambulatory care in newborns with very and extremely low birth weight, and in newborns that experienced resuscitation – intensive care for serious health reasons. For the time being, it is necessary to renew technical equipment, which is at the end of its service life or is even missing, to provide the corresponding patients with the highest quality diagnostics and therapy.
The integral part of the program is the education of the nursing staff providing the care for high-risk newborns. This will ensure better prospects for the high-risk newborns as well as improved conditions for timely and accurate diagnostics of developmental disorders. A long-term monitoring of the newborns with perinatal loads, particularly of those with low birth weight, will help to reduce social and economic inequities.
This project also includes creation and implementation of the programme of preventive dispensary care, within the framework of which, a lecture series and individual meetings will be provided and organised. Medical experts of the Regional Health Corporation will provide lectures for secondary schools on the topic of “Gravidity, high-risk pregnancy and premature birth”. Lectures on the topic of “Care for newborns with low birth weight” have been prepared for children’s (and juvenile) physicians, and lectures on the topic of “Care for preterm infants after discharge from hospital”, “Prevention of sudden infant death syndrome, and training in laic first aid cardiopulmonary resuscitation”, and “Risk of preterm birth and problems in care for preterm infants” have been prepared for parents and expectant mothers. During the period of the supplies of equipment and training of staff, programmes of secondary and tertiary prevention will be launched. Particularly examinations in the sphere of the pathology of head, eyes, otolaryngology, as well as chest and abdominal cavities will be introduced.
